Michelle Lucas, author of Elephants Never Lie, and Kirstyn Lazur, author of I Was Cursed in Connecticut, want to co-author a book with YOU.
Writing your story not only brings healing for oneself, but also brings healing for others. The world needs more brave writers who are committed to sharing the story of how they walked through unbelievable challenges to step into freedom. One story has the power to change a life and shift our entire current paradigm.

This story is within YOU.
We understand that writing and publishing your personal story can be scary. That’s why we wanted to create a safe way to do so in community with two published authors who understand that a big part of turning any wound into a gift involves creation, or as Michelle would say, creating forward.
If you know that your story needs to be published so that it may be of service to others, you’ve never published before and you’d like your story to be in our next book, read on!

2. You will receive an email confirmation that your summary has been received.
3. If your one-page summary has been selected, you will receive an email requesting a short 5 chapter manuscript. You must submit your 5 chapter manuscript to [email protected] within 14 days of receiving the request, otherwise the submission will be ineligible.

5 Chapter Manuscript Guidelines
- The main character must face a problem and find a solution
- The main character’s internal motivation is revealed. In other words, what’s the real reason why the main character falls into this dilemma in the first place? This requires excavating what is happening in the main character’s mind and tracing the character’s primary misbelief to its place of origin.
- Tension rises as the problem becomes greater, the main character has a big A-ha! Moment, and experiences resolution
Keep in mind that submission of the 5 chapter manuscript does not guarantee co-authorship. Michelle and Kirstyn will review and discuss your manuscript to see if it is a match for the book.
4. You will receive notification if your 5 chapter manuscript has been selected for publication. Kirstyn will work with you on editing and revising your manuscript.
5. Your manuscript will then be woven into our next book with a tentative publication date at the end of 2020. Your name will appear as co-author of the book along side Michelle Lucas and Kirstyn Lazur.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. As co-author, will I receive royalties from book sales?
Yes. Profits from book sales will be distributed evenly to the three authors, one of which is you.
2. When will I find out if my one page summary has been selected?
We will be accepting submissions of the one page story summary from September 21, 2019-March 21, 2020. You will be notified if yours has been selected by March 28, 2020. You may be notified sooner.
3. Should I begin to write my 5 chapter manuscript even if I don’t know if I will be selected?
This is up to you. If you already know that you’d like to publish your story then it’d be a great idea to start the manuscript now. If you are selected, you will have a working manuscript ready to go. If you aren’t selected, these pages can be the beginning of your own book, article, blog, or whatever medium you choose to get your story out there. Keep in mind that if your story is selected, you will have only 14 days from that date to submit a manuscript. Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee that you will be selected as the co-author.
4. Can my story be fiction?
No. Your story must be a true story. With that being said, you are certainly welcome to change names, places and the order of events. However, the basic story must be lived experience. We are looking for a manuscript that could be categorized as memoir or creative non-fiction.
5. Do I have to have a background in writing?
No. You must, however, have a passion for writing and a knowing that your story can help others. Previous experience in publication of articles or essays is not a requirement. In fact, we are looking for a writer who has not been published before.
6. Can I use a pen name?
Yes. You can publish under a pen name if you would like to.
7. How do I know if my story would be a good fit for this book? How will my story be incorporated into the whole?
Kirstyn and Michelle will select the story that matches the essential message of the book. As there will be other characters and storylines, your particular story line is selected because it is already a thematic match. During the editing process, we will consider structural changes that will best serve the unfolding of all storylines within the book. Your story (and your message) will be held intact in its integrity as it gets woven within the book.
8. Can my manuscript be longer than 5 chapters?
You may divide your manuscript as you see fit and so, it may have a little more or less than 5 chapters. However, it should not exceed 100 pages total. If you are considering a 5 chapter structure that is 20 pages per chapter.
9. My story is longer than 100 pages and/or I have a manuscript with nine or more chapters. Can I still submit it?
No. It sounds like you have your own book already written or very close to being written. If you’d like help with the next stage of your manuscript, you can consider working directly with Kirstyn for further feedback and editing of your manuscript and ways to get it publication-ready.
