why dance when it doesn't last?

When I lived in Wuhan, China I met a famous Chinese calligrapher who asked me why I danced.

“Dance doesn’t last,” he said. “The performance ends and it’s done. Why not do sculpture? Painting? These things endure. You leave a legacy.”

The picture above was a moment in time I took backstage waiting to dance in the Great Gatsby. It was a show I didn’t announce. There was no video taken. No DVD. Just this moment - now gone.

So why dance?

There’s something so bold and daring and beautiful about making art that doesn’t last.

It affirms LIFE.

Life is transient.

To dance is to be in presence with the moment as it is

and to know that YES, it will end

... and love it anyway.

Life ends and you love it... anyway.

To love the transient is a deep kind of love.

Then, of course, there is also the real-EYES-ation that all moments are recorded -
every thought, intention, creation

in the Akashic.

When you expand beyond the 3-D perception,

beyond the fear of the finality of death

and come to know there is no death
only transition,

there is no time
only timelessness,

then there is no need to fear the moment that does not last.

No need to fear creating something that will end.

There is all the reason to love it more.
